Interclub Bowling

Last week just as when the school holidays started, we participated in an interclub bowling event - Radical Tintworld3s Interclub bowling held at 1Utama's U-Bowl.  Remember my Friday ranting's posting where I complained about my right wrist hurting?  Well that was the practice session and the tourney was on Sunday.  The event was organized by Radical Society which was a pretty well run event I would say.

Parking was hell in 1Utama (as usual) but got there in the nick of time.  No, I didn't play.  I was considered just as a 'spare' because we had more powderful playaz...I mean, bowlers there.

So when we submitted 2 teams because there were too many enthusiastic bowlers from our club, we wanted to have a good team name.  Everyone chipped in and names such as 'spinners', 'drifters', 'overtakers' came out.  On the tourney day, guess what names we had for our 2 lanes?  Satria GTi Team XXX and Satria GTi Team YYY!! Whyyyy whyyy..whyyy laa those names?  So..so...skema wan?  Haiyoh, such creative people we have to have it named Team XXX and Team YYY.  Sounded more like a Chromosome team.   Anyway, they were given those orangy tee's to wear because the organizers wanted us to look 'uniformed?'.  Prolly some other club's t-shirt may just look too striking or intimidating to other clubs, so everyone had to don the free tee's that were given out.

I wanted to play sub but that position was taken up by a new member who used to play for SUKMA (Sukan Malaysia) representing Pahang sometime back soooooo...since he has got the porfolio, hey, by all means be my guest.  Our players include 1 member from Kuantan who brought along his own Kuantan-ese cheerleader.

We started off pretty okay, with total pinfalls for either lanes recording high 400's to low 500's.  At first we wanted to group all the best players on 1 team and the less powderful ones into the other but the organizers had already keyed in the names and teams...duhhh.  I went around to look at other clubs bowl.  Hey, we're not that bad until I saw TAVAC (Toyota Avanza Club) score.  Each one of them passed 200 pinfall barriers and we were averaging 140 ~ 160 pinfalls per pax.  Okay, we can kiss first place goodbye but still strong for 2nd or at least 3rd placing.  So after 2 more frames,  we should know.  Just at the 3rd frame, our own Papa-san had arranged for the Japan GT Babes to pop by to do a promo for Japan GT race this month in Sepang International F1 Circuit.

Konichiwa.  We are the Japan GT Babes.  Catch us in Sepang this month

Since we met all 3 girls the week before when Satria GTi Club had a sorta private photo session with them..I mean in a group la, so we didn't really bother, but it somehow did affect other club's bowling focus but not ours..ehehe.

After 3 games, we awaited the score with anticipation.  Well, somehow we knew we didn't winP1010302 anything but who knows, we may just be in the running for the top 5 perhaps?  Others decided to take off early when they knew they literally had no chance of winning, to tell you the truth, so did we but I told our team to stay back, just in case and guess what?  We won 2 lucky draw prizes and the top female bowler was non other than our own female bowler!  At least the whole thing wasn't a total waste of time and a lost cause.  Met up with many old friends and we generally had a good time bowling and mingling around, yeah... It was a good weekend and next, we hope to run a pool tourney soon.  Hope you had a pleasant read.

Interclub Futsal Match

Last weekend we had our first Interclub Futsal Match held at Panglobal Building in Jalan Tandang.  The only futsal court which is above ground.  So that means thinner air to play with...heheh ya rite!  Anyway, we started off bright and early...like I slept at 4.30am and woke up at 6.15am okay..and met the rest in Taman Tun before convoying to the place just a mere 10km away.

Upon arriving, hordes of people and their cars were already there (its Sunday for God's sake and its what...7.30am!!!..guys..go back to sleep!).  So we gingerly made our way up to the 7th floor, registered and went to the hall...of only 1 court..and *gasp*, the court is bigger than we thought.  Okay, so we were early and only half the area was filled up.  As other car clubs started trickling in, we saw what we were up against with.  These people not only look like they play futsal every week, but some of them look like they play football every evening...die die die!  Here we are, a bunch of onced-in-a-blue-moon futsal practice just for fun kinda sort y'know.  Okay nevermind, winning or losing doesn't matter, cause when you've set your mind in losing...winning doesn't seem to matter anymore.

We waited till the draw to start is being done...ye God..13th in line?  Each game is 20mins and thats like..11am?  Our two wonderful ladies made a quick getaway and brought us back some nourishment in the form of nasi lemak, mee hoon goreng, buns and isotonic drinks, since its still so late to start.  So okay, we watched other people play, game after game...and as we watched, we knew where our destiny lay.  So there it was, time for us to play game!  We were up against ProcC (Proton Club.Com) and AFAIK, they have a football team and man, do they look like them.  How we fared?  Well we lost 7-0.  Just check the video below to see for yourself.

Well after a great big defeat, we trudged our aching and sore bodies to Raju's for a nice lunch, banana leaf under the trees with some fresh fried fish and chicken and a whole load of curries.  A nice ending to a lost cause and the chirping of the birds, the cool wafting breeze and the company of friends laughing away over folded banana leaf lessened the joint pains.

Have a pleasant read.

A shock

I received a sad piece of news last night in the form of an SMS.  One of our GTi Club members from Kuantan, her husband, passed away.  What shocked me was because we met him exactly 2 weeks ago in Kuantan.

Our member, Ana came apologycally late when we were at Kuantan Specialist Centre last 2 weeks.  We were there for an official social visit to support our GTi Club Kuantan members who brought us to a splendid BBQ and a round of entertainment the night before.  We got the news that Ana's husband was admitted in the ICU for heart attack and since we were there, we decided to visit him before we make our way back to Kuala Lumpur.

We saw him, slightly frail but in good humor.  He sat up and chatted with us on his bed slowly at first because he just woke up but later picked up pace and soon enough, we were roaring with laughter in that small room in the hospital.  He looked fine, for a person who just had a heart attack  1 week before.  He explained in great detail how it happened...the pain...and the whole ordeal.  We all found ourselves clutching to our chest with a slight hint of tightness inside after he finished his story and he kept repeating to everyone in the room, "Smoking, its not worth the pain".  He used to be a smoker and that contributed to his heart attack.  In every person, there are 3 main valves to the heart, 1 of his valves is already clogged and due to the heart attack, is almost rendered useless.  The other 2 valves has narrowed drastically, and doctors admistered drugs to try and whit away the stuff thats clogging his arteries.  If that doesn't do it, he was scheduled for a bypass operation next month.  His wife Ana was with him, in good spirits too, seeing that her husband is getting along fine especially that this was the first time he met with our committee members, the ones who looked out for his wife and daughter when they went for our Kenyir Getaway trip without him.

He showed us how the doctors performed angiogram on him, where the stuck a tube  from his right hand vein snaking all the way up to his heart to confirm the blockage of the heart through some radioscopic material that will show up on a special kind of x-ray, and how he said more and more adults as young as 20 years of age are doing this to check the condition of their hearts.  He also said high cholestoral contributed to his heart attack.  Comparing his body size and Ana's sister who is slightly larger, Ana's sister's cholestoral level is normal as opposed to his.  That shows that body size doesn't contribute to the amount of cholestoral in your body.

We left his room in good and high spirits, wishing him all the best of luck and for him to get well, until we received the text message last night.

May god rest his soul and for the rest...take care of your health while you still have it.

Amen.

Satria GTi Club Annual Dinner

Satria GTi Club Annual Dinner - Planet Hollywood
2nd April 2005

F4961094Aptly themed 'Wild Wild West', the night showed that members were sporting enough to come with their giddy-up clothes with some of them sporting riding leather gear, spurs, Red Indian headress, fake beard and toy guns with 'Marshal' badges.  Even the women folk came in with a variety of dressings from 'Can-Can' dancers, 'Senorita' outfits and the 'Lady' like suits.

It surely was a night to remember as Red Indians and cowboys n cowgirls were a hootin 'n a tootin the night away.  We shocked many regular visitors of Planet Hollywood thinking there was a costume party and some of us were even mistaken for Planet staff!  Highlight of the evening was the Media Appreciation award ceremony where 12 mass media from TV, paper and car magazines turned up receiving the awards.  Those who attended were TV3, RTM, BERNAMA, Utusan Malaysia, Harian Metro, NST - Cars, Bikes n Trucks, Motocar Magazine, Traffic Magazine, Hypertune Magazine, Driven Magazine, Asian Auto Magazine.  Special Recognition Award followed suit and dedicated the award to a very special person who has taught us many things in the aspect of driving and motor sports.  Our Go Samui Getaway being aired by Majalah 3 on TV 3 was shown on ALL the TV and monitor screens in Planet Hollywood for 15 minutes.

After that its PARTEH TIME till the wee hours of the morning.  Woke up with a hangover and buzzin in my ears but the smile on those who came to the dinner, will last forever.  I want to thank to all the great staff from the Management to the cooks in Planet Hollywood for putting up with our affair with a big smile on their faces.
